According to CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan, MS Dhoni would seek medical advice on his knee injury and decide on treatment

Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the captain of the Chennai Super Kings, would see sports orthopaedics in Mumbai for advice on the condition of his problematic left knee before deciding on a course of therapy, according to CEO Kasi Viswanathan on Wednesday.

Dhoni had his left knee severely wrapped during the whole IPL season, and although he seemed perfectly fine when keeping wicket, he sometimes batted as late as No. 8 and didn't appear quick between the wickets.

“It is true that Dhoni would seek medical counsel on his left knee ailment and make a decision in accordance with that advise. If surgery is recommended, the decision will entirely be up to him, Viswanathan said, and it will only be known once the findings are released.

Is it possible that Dhoni may opt not to participate in the next season, freeing up Rs. 15 crore for the mini auction, Since we haven't arrived to that point, the CEO said, “Frankly, we are not even thinking on those lines.

“Dhoni will make the final decision. But I can assure you that at CSK, we haven't given such ideas any consideration,” Viswanathan added.

Asked whether there will be celebrations after the fifth IPL Trophy and if CSK CEO N Srinivasan addressed the players.

“He is overjoyed, yet there was no party. Only from Ahmedabad did the players scatter for their separate destinations. Additionally, if you have watched CSK, you know that we don't do many celebrations, the seasoned official said.

Given the recent series of injuries to its star players, Viswanathan was asked whether the fifth IPL victory felt the sweetest. He said, “It's all about team spirit and every player understanding his position, which is extremely clearly defined in our system.

“Despite his temperament, a player of Ben Stokes' size was excellent in the group, and the young players looked up to him. Our commander has enabled this to happen.

What distinguishing trait has CSK shown throughout the years that has allowed them to reach the final in 11 of the 14 editions in which they have participated?

“Since season 1, when I first became affiliated with CSK, we have never strayed from our methodology. The secret has been to keep things straightforward and make clear what is expected of each participant. The captain keeps things simple in our franchise, according to Viswanathan.

CSK was denied entry to the league for two seasons.
