House of Mori: Two Expressions Within a Single Setting

House of Mori: Two Expressions Within a Single Setting

House of Mori is conceived as a carefully put-together space where a café and restaurant exist within one cohesive environment. Rather than being defined as separate formats, both unfold as distinct expressions of the same approach, one that values balance, continuity, and ease.

The space moves naturally through the day, accommodating different rhythms without requiring a shift. Mornings, afternoons, and evenings are not treated as separate occasions, but as a steady progression of time, where the setting adjusts without disruption.

At one end sits Café HŌM, shaped as a more intimate and personal environment. The space is quieter, allowing for a sense of stillness and pause. Materials such as hand-painted tiles, woven bamboo, and wood bring a tactile warmth, while the scale and detailing create a setting that feels inward and grounded. It is a space for longer stays, where one can settle in, return to, and remain without interruption.

The restaurant, while connected in form and overall character, carries a different presence. The energy is more open, with a stronger visual focus defined by the hand-painted wall art that anchors the room. The space remains composed, but allows for a greater sense of movement and interaction. It accommodates gatherings, conversations, and shared meals, while maintaining the same balance and restraint.

What ties both together is a consistent use of materials and layout. Greenery moves across the indoors and outdoors, softening boundaries and creating continuity throughout. Natural materials and handcrafted details remain consistent, allowing the shift between café and restaurant to feel easy rather than marked.

This reflects a clear understanding of how the space is used. House of Mori is not built around a single purpose or moment, but to hold different ways of spending time, whether alone or in company, briefly or over extended hours.

Within this, the café and restaurant do not function as separate destinations, but as parts of the same space. Each offers a different way of being in it, while remaining grounded in a shared sense of calm, familiarity, and restraint.
