5 Things You Should Know Before Trading ETFs

A pooled investment asset known as an Exchange Traded Fund (ETF) performs similarly to a mutual fund. These ETFs often follow a certain index, industry, commodity, or other asset class. ETFs, on the other hand, may be purchased or sold on a stock market exactly like real equities, in contrast to mutual funds.<img decoding=”async” class=”alignnone wp-image-151500″ src=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/theindiaprint.com-how-pomegranate-cultivation-helps-this-andhra-farmer-make-huge-profits-1960×0-1-11zon-750×500.png” alt=”theindiaprint.com how pomegranate cultivation helps this andhra farmer make huge profits 1960×0 1 11zon” width=”1481″ height=”987″ srcset=”https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/theindiaprint.com-how-pomegranate-cultivation-helps-this-andhra-farmer-make-huge-profits-1960×0-1-11zon-750×500.png 750w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/theindiaprint.com-how-pomegranate-cultivation-helps-this-andhra-farmer-make-huge-profits-1960×0-1-11zon-768×512.png 768w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/theindiaprint.com-how-pomegranate-cultivation-helps-this-andhra-farmer-make-huge-profits-1960×0-1-11zon-150×100.png 150w, https://www.theindiaprint.com/wp-content/uploads/2023/08/theindiaprint.com-how-pomegranate-cultivation-helps-this-andhra-farmer-make-huge-profits-1960×0-1-11zon.png 960w” sizes=”(max-width: 1481px) 100vw, 1481px” title=”5 Things You Should Know Before Trading ETFs 9″>

Exchange-traded funds (ETFs) have seen a considerable increase in demand in recent years. The National Stock Exchange (NSE) website data indicate that there are more than 174 accessible ETFs as of June 30, 2023. These funds are regarded as passive investments in which capital is gathered to purchase a variety of assets to replicate the performance of a certain index.

In a tweet highlighting the development of ETFs, online brokerage site Zerodha stated: “Exchange-traded funds (ETFs) have significantly increased over the last five or so years. Since there are more than 174 ETFs, it is simple to create a low-cost, internationally diversified portfolio using just ETFs.

Investors should have the following in mind when purchasing or selling exchange-traded funds, according to Zerodha:

Don’t make a quick purchase or sale on the open market:

Because ETFs often have low trading volumes in the first 15 to 30 minutes, refrain from buying or selling as soon as the market begins. Due to the lack of liquidity, this may cause substantial price fluctuations.

Use limit orders exclusively:

When trading ETFs, it is important to continuously employ limit orders. Despite the fact that ETFs have expanded generally, many of them still have modest trading volumes. The most well-known ETFs are where the majority of trading activity is centered. If you use a market order, your transaction can be carried out at prices that are quite different from the pricing of previous trades.

Trade cautiously in choppy markets:

ETFs may experience significant premiums or discounts during periods of market turbulence. Targeting a price that closely matches the indicated Net Asset Value (iNAV) is essential when trading ETFs.

Use care while investing in illiquid ETFs:

As was previously indicated, not all ETFs have regular trading activity. It’s crucial to evaluate both the current trading volume and past trading volumes when thinking about investing in an ETF.

Employ ETF SIPs:

You may set up a Systematic Investment Plan (SIP), as is done with mutual funds, for continuous ETF investments. Additionally, you may create an e-Mandate to enable automatic money transfers for SIPs to your trading account.
