The Pakistan Super League (PSL) has seen a lot of nail-biting action this week. In the Twenty20 competition, Peshawar Zalmi won their third straight game to continue their winning streak. On Monday, February 26, in the final 13 balls of their match against Islamabad United, the Babar Azam-led team in Lahore produced a stunning comeback as the 2017 champions won by 8 runs.

At 181/3, Islamabad United was comfortably leading the match, chasing 202. Despite Babar’s second PSL century, Azam Khan was on a tear, hitting 75 off just 29 balls, and it looked like the Zalmi could be out of the game pretty soon. Azam’s barrage had virtually won the match for the United, as the powerful wicketkeeper batsman punished the Zalmi bowling attack with six fours and as many sixes. On the penultimate delivery of the eighteenth over, Azam mistimed a lofted shot to mid-off, but Naveen ul Haq recovered well to take the big wicket.

The United was involved in an automobile accident! Leg-spinner Arif Yaqoob, who was bowling the 19th over, stumped Colin Munro, the other set batter, on the first ball. To change the course of the match, he took three more wickets in the overs of Hunain Shah, Haider Ali, and Faheem Ashraf. Yaqoob finished with a 5/27 score.

Islamabad United needed 19 runs in the last over after falling behind by five wickets in seven balls, going from 181/3 to 183/8. After defeating the reigning champion Lahore Qalandars to start the tournament, Salman Irshad attempted a six in the final over but was able to contain 19 runs, and Zalmi emerged victorious. This was United’s third consecutive loss.

Islamabad had a chance to chase the target of 202 thanks to Azam Khan alone, but in the end it was not to be.
